Enphase Energy

Systems Technician October 2022 — Present

Hands-on specialist in residential and small commercial energy systems, combining electrical expertise with system design and testing. I support engineers in developing and commissioning solar based power management solutions, leveraging real world installation experience to optimize workflows. My role includes selecting and assembling test equipment, performing single and three phase installations, and contributing to system performance evaluations.

Since joining the team, I've grown immensely in both electrical and IT domains. I've become familiar with compliance equipment like grid simulators, load simulators, oscilloscopes, and high resolution power analyzers, which has deepened my understanding of system performance and diagnostics. I've designed and wired testing racks for upcoming products, developed automated test cases using Python, and built a custom Python GUI tool to manage inventory efficiently. My role also includes procurement, equipment maintenance, and working directly with sales representatives. I've gained hands on experience modifying PCB designs, soldering components, and replacing electronic parts. To keep advancing my IT skills, I completed a 100 day Python course on Udemy, which has empowered me to integrate automation and software tools into our engineering workflows.

Innovationz Electrical

Senior Electrician / Solar Specialist June 2020 — October 2022

As a Senior Electrician and Solar Specialist, I led the installation, maintenance, and optimization of residential and commercial solar energy systems. My role involved designing and implementing efficient solar solutions, performing advanced electrical work including single and three-phase systems, and ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.

In this role, I was responsible for leading solar installations across industrial and commercial sites, from initial planning through to final commissioning. I organized and prepared all necessary equipment and materials, coordinated with teams on-site, and ensured that installations were completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant standards and documentation requirements. My responsibilities included managing the full lifecycle of solar projects — designing system layouts, performing electrical installations, and conducting commissioning tests. I also handled the associated paperwork, including compliance documentation, system reports, and installation records. This role strengthened my leadership, planning, and technical skills, and gave me a solid foundation in managing solar projects end to end.

Solar City

Senior Electrician / Installation Supervisor June 2018 — June 2020

Responsible for leading the installation team in delivering residential and small commercial solar projects across both the North and South Island. This role involved coordinating logistics, preparing equipment and materials, and overseeing on-site installations to ensure timely and compliant execution. Key duties included fault finding, servicing, and commissioning of solar systems, with a strong focus on safety, performance, and customer satisfaction.

This position allowed me to develop strong leadership and project coordination skills. I gained hands on experience managing installations end to end from preparing equipment and materials to final commissioning and customer handover. I became confident in diagnosing and resolving system faults, and I took pride in ensuring every customer felt informed and supported throughout the process. Working across both islands gave me exposure to a wide range of site conditions and system configurations, which strengthened my adaptability and technical problem-solving. It was a rewarding role that deepened my passion for renewable energy and customer focused service.

Jace Electrical

Electrician 2016 — 2018

Responsible for managing the service department of a Rolleston-based electrical company, overseeing residential and commercial service work, as well as electrical installations in new housing developments. Additional responsibilities involved the installation and configuration of home automation systems, contributing to modern smart home solutions.

In this role, I gained valuable experience managing a diverse range of electrical service tasks, from troubleshooting and repairs to full installations in new builds. Leading the service department allowed me to refine my organizational and communication skills, ensuring smooth coordination between clients, suppliers, and technicians. I also became familiar with home automation technologies, integrating smart systems into residential projects. This position strengthened my ability to work independently, solve problems efficiently, and deliver high-quality service across varied environments.

Owl Electrical

Apprentice / Electrician 2013 — 2016

Provided electrical services across commercial and domestic sectors for an Auckland-based electrical company, working alongside major industry partners such as Fletcher Construction and Foodstuffs. Responsibilities included installation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis of electrical systems in both new and existing buildings.

While working for this company, I completed my electrical apprenticeship in just three years and became a registered electrician. I achieved 80% in Electricians Theory and 81% in Electrical Regulations, reflecting my strong technical foundation and commitment to excellence. This role gave me broad exposure to complex commercial projects and diverse residential work, helping me build confidence, precision, and professionalism in the field.
